Dear, as I am planning to buy some fig trees that DO give figs, I wonder what to do when bought: leave them in their container or remove the pot and plant them in full earth? Is it right that when you restrain the space for the root system by leaving them in their container/putting some rocks in the planting pit, one will get an earlier and bigger harvest than when the plant can freely expand its roots and so have a more vegetative growth? Many thanks for your advice, and my congratulations for your wonderful site and plants!

Hello,
yes, we obserserved this tendency. But it's a complex balancinig act: Figs produce the new fruits at the young wood, so if they starve too much, they won't grow much and can't have many figs. On the other side, if the fig is in a very nutrient-rich soil with space, enogh water and always best conditions, it can(!) be that the plant will grow very good but the flowers won't develop.
